About Us

Mission

Child Care Stories seeks to expand our collective imagination of what is considered “possible” and “practical” in child care and early education policy in the United States.

Child Care Stories enhances the work of advocacy organizations by telling impactful stories and crafting simple, persuasive messages. We develop resources, gather data, and support grassroots advocates in their understanding of the complex systems that impact their work and lives.

Vision

Child Care Stories works to build popular and governmental support for a thriving, universal child care system that is rooted in compassion.

A mother

We envision a system where…

Every family has care that meets their needs.

Families’ child care decisions consider more than just work. They prioritize factors like location, comfort, connection, home language, culture, and curriculum. They may seek more than one care setting to meet those needs.

Every child is safe, loved, and learning.

Child care and early education are for the child. Their parents’ contributions to the economy are not the most worthy, or only, reason to fight for a better system.

Every educator and provider earns a good wage with benefits.

Child care educators must be able to care for themselves and their families. They need a thriving wage that honors both experience and education, paid leave and vacation time, healthcare, retirement, and the right to unionize.

Universal child care builds sustainable communities.

An equitable public system supported by a strong tax base provides stability for children, financial certainty for programs, guaranteed availability for families, and a dependable workforce for employers.

Our founder, Katie Albitz, has over a decade of experience in child care and early childhood education.

As a former toddler teacher, Katie’s approach to child care policy is rooted in the belief that no one should have to leave the work they love caring for and educating young children because they cannot make ends meet.
